The FORMagic/400 and ACADIS/400 AutoCAD Document Integration Servers enable host initiation, control, and production of optimized, just-in-time document packages, including AutoCAD drawings, directly at the point of use. The FORMagic/400 Document Integration Server is identical to ACADIS/400 except that it omits the support needed for processing AutoCAD drawings.
Using standard Windows workstations and laser printers, the Document Integration Server (DIS) provides a highly cost-effective, software-only alternative to centralized print server systems costing $20,000-40,000 or even more, while also enabling significant capabilities for integrating processes across platforms. Traditional solutions (such as provided by Xerox, Canon, Oce, and Plotworks) generally rely on dedicated servers and highly specialized printers and offer little or no ability to meet special requirements for integrated functionality. Savings of tens of thousands of dollars can thus be achieved versus many traditional solutions, even before savings from process integration are considered.
Originally developed for a World 100 manufacturing company, the DIS has been in highly successful operation since early 2004. It is ideal for applications, such as manufacturing order release, where a host system must initiate and control a comprehensive, integrated process for printing customized document packages, with multiple document types at multiple locations with no human intervention. The DIS is also ideal as a low cost, standalone, AutoCAD print server.
The DIS processes "job files" generated and submitted by applications residing on any host platform, including the iSeries, AS/400, i5, Linux, Windows, DOS, Unix, AIX, Sun, DEC, HP, even IBM mainframes. The DIS also includes a Job Creator facility for generating and submitting jobs composed manually at a Windows workstation. In accordance with options set in the job file, the DIS generates and batch prints complete, optimized, just-in-time document packages integrating OS/400 spoolfiles, Windows documents (DWG, DOC, XLS, PDF, TXT, TIF, etc), documents from Linux and other sources, and any custom processing functions (developed by the user or by Keowee Systems) required to achieve a complete, fully integrated process. These document types, plus PRN stream files, TXS (see below), and many others recognized by Windows, can be freely intermixed in a single print job.
Job files provide a highly flexible structure to meet almost any document distribution requirement. Each job file may contain one or more print jobs, each print job can specify one or more recipients, and each recipient can receive specific drawings. This structure provides highly granular application control over numerous processing options including documents to be printed, document quantity, print sequence, recipients, destination printers, set quantities, customizable cover pages, processing priority, and more.
The DIS provides several special facilities:

Support for processing TXS files, text files containing data in the host standard "First Character Forms Control (FCFC)" format. Using these files for host documents, jobs can integrate spoolfiles from the iSeries and other host systems into final output packages.
Optional, automatic insertion of electronic forms overlays, generated by the FORMagic/400 Forms Overlay Manager, when TXT and TXS files are processed.
Windows-based client for creating and submitting job files manually where direct generation by a host application is not desirable.
Selection of the highest priority print job awaiting processing, enabling rush jobs to be handled ahead of previously submitted jobs.
Optimized pre-processing of AutoCAD drawings, using script files, to speed throughput.
Execution of separately developed user functions required to achieve a fully integrated order release process.
The DIS must have access to the applications which process the various file types handled by the server (Word, Excel, Acrobat, AutoCAD, etc), but it includes built-in support for processing TXT, TXS, and PRN files.
The DIS is intended for use with all 32-bit versions of Windows. It is available on a 30-day, no obligation trial basis, fully enabled with ACADIS/400 AutoCAD support. If you purchase the FORMagic/400 version, the AutoCAD support will be disabled when a permanent activation key is installed.
The DIS includes technical support during the evaluation period and for ninety days after purchase. Extended support plans are available. Upgrades for enhanced versions will be offered to current users at a special upgrade price for a reasonable period after the initial availability.
You must purchase one copy of the Document Integration Server for each installation of the Server. You can install the Job Creator component on an unlimited number of workstations at the same physical location as the Server. Each additional physical location requiring the Job Creation capability must purchase its own client copy, which then allows unlimited usage at that site.
